Bing Not

Okay, I just wanted to post a quick rant about the name of Microsoft’s latest incarnation for their search engine. “Bing” First, Bing was my most favorite character on Friends… Okay, second does anybody really say “Bing” except my eleven year old son, because he things the word is silly? I think that whoever made the final decision on the word Bing was quite frankly out of touch with reality. Nobody thinks of an idea and says, “Bing!” They could at least have at least added the punctuation as I have. That adds a little visual excitement. At least go with a web 2.0 logo. Actually I love their new image search! I just hate the name.

It’s as if MS decide they would try to fit it with the hip kids from the early nineties, or rip off the Sopranos, or… What exactly is their motivation for the rename? I understand rebooting the name, but Live sounds a heck of a lot better than Bing.

Never in my lifetime have I thought of a good idea, and even in my head hear the word Bing. It’s usually, “I got it.” or, “Damn I’m good.” or maybe even, “Eureka.” Never Bing. And actually I’ve had some pretty good ideas throughout my 37 years.

It’s not even Bada-Bing, or bing bam boom to the brainpan. I will give 3 names here to prove that off the top of my head I can think up a better name than Bing.

Betta Search – As in Better Search People would be thinking it’s a misspelling of beta, but that would drive traffic to the site.

WhutZit. – As in find out what it is… Not the best but still better than Bing. (I’m sure teenagers would snicker about having the word, “zit” in it, however, they’ve pretty much alienated that demographic using the moniker Bing.)

And last but not least – L1VEĀ  – Example slogan: The 1 place you will find exactly what your looking for the first time.” (Even if that’s not true.) That way they keep some of their brand recognition, and they at least appeal to the Halo3 audience.

Anyway, Microsoft are you listening??? PS: I’m looking for a job, Is Redmond cold this time of year…

Website Analyzer

Website Analyzer

Website Analyzer

This is just a quick post to let everyone know about the new website I have built that allows users to enter their website url, and analyze information and statistics about their pages.

Basically what I have the application doing right now is:

  • Server Communication Log
  • Meta Tag Analysis
  • Link Analysis (Basic)
  • Keyword Density (Basic)
  • Search Engine Listing example)

This will be an ongoing project for the next several week, but any suggestions about the service are encouraged, and it’s a long way from finished, but provides some very good information about your pages so far. I intend this service to be the best around, and more full-featured than any. (That’s the goal for my new website analyser)

How I Import To New Blog

My Blogging Post HTML Creation Software

My Blogging Post HTML Creation Software

So I used to run Music City.net on another CMS. It’s really a directory of everything cools and for businesses in Nashville, Tennessee to advertise online. I had no convenient way to import posts into WordPress, so I decide that I would use Google cache of the old pages, and build a little program in Delphi to create the HTML, complete with WordPress shortcode so I could visit the site within the program, enter a few details, save it to a desktop database, and then create the HTML, and the shortcodes needed for my particular WordPress set up.

The basic steps are few, and a few hours of programming in Delphi allowed me to save hours of hand coding. I am thinking of developing a pro-blogger program that will allow users to create formatted HTML from some field values on the program’s form, save to DB, and insert custom text, and copy paragraph snippets via the embedded web browser.

This program took me about five hours to build, and some of it looks pretty bare bones, but it has helped me tremendously in time to import all my old listing into the new site. Click on the smaller thumbnail to view the software full screen screen shot.
