I don’t know about you guys, but I like Web of Trust add in for FireFox and Internet Explorer. Basically what is does is install a small button in your browser’s toolbar, and allows users to rate each site on four different “Trust Aspects”

Trustworthiness

Vendor Reliability

Privacy

Child Safety

The button pop out to reveal a slider with a red to green bar that represents a level for each category from 1 to 100. Very easy to use, and very easy to trust. If you go to a site that has been previously rated as bad by enough votes, the browser will warn you as pictured above. You can get further information about the site WOT is tracking from WOT’s website such as: Votes for and against, comments, etc…

It’s a great little add in for your web browser, and since actual people are doing the voting, it does make me feel more secure. On Web of Trust’s homepage, you can see recent ratings, on the WOT scorecard, find out more about the community trust network, and discover any future plans for extending or improving these plug ins. They also allow you to join for free and get a trusted badge for your website, if indeed your site is trusted.

Madman’s Rate : 4 / 5

I recently tried out a trial campaign from http://www.visitorboost.com. So I’m describing in detail what I think of the service, and the quality of traffic I’ve received.

First, I bought the trial campaign for $1.95 Us Dollars. For this amount you will get 1000 untargeted visitors from worldwide web surfers. To be clear, the visitors from the trial were untargeted, and from all over the place. The landing page you select must follow Visitor Boost’s guidelines which are as follows:

Campaign Guidelines For Your Landing Page:
VisitorBoost will send the visitors you order to the URL you enter above. This specific page may not contain auto-playing sounds (such as video, background music, flash intros), additional popup windows (on load or exit), javascript prompts, or software installers. Any of these elements can be included if they require user action to initiate (such as clicking ‘Play’ on a video).

I didn’t have any problems for this, as I sent them here: Search Directory which doesn’t break any of their terms of the agreement. So far, so good. I have noticed a traffic spike in my server logs, and through other methods I use to track traffic to that site. So apparently they are sending the visitors as promised. I have noticed a lower than usual CTR for the page (Google Adsense) from this untargeted traffic, but hey Visitor Boost also offers targeted traffic, which costs more.

It is important to note that after you pay, you must come back and tweak the settings of your traffic campaign to send the number of visitors in the timeframe you request. Default is not sufficient if you want a lot of traffic quickly. Is is also VERY important to point out that you can only send 1/8th of the traffic you bought in a 24 hour period. So keep that in mind.

Other facts about Visitor Boost:

Here’s the Alexa Data for VisitorBoost.com They do run their own affiliate program, and they do have PPC ad campaigns a lot of sites, including Alexa. I also want to let my readers know that most reviews of Visitor Boost that I was able to find were from Visitor Boost affiliates. Not a comforting thought. However, as I said they do send traffic as promised. How well that traffic performs compared to your normal traffic sources remains to be seen, and of course is up to the eyes of the traffic beholder. As I said, I noticed a lower CTR on the untargeted traffic, but I am thinking about buying a targeted package, and test that, and post the results here.

I will point out that Visitor Boost is backed by a legitimate company: Awio Web Services LLC
1451 Graeme Way
Warminster, PA 18974
United States

So in short, I think that if you are needing more traffic, you should use SEO, but using Visitor Boost boost on a trial basis costs little and could in fact help you.

Official Internet Madman Rating: 3 / 5
